About Us
Portadown Cares was originally established as a small community concern but it quickly became apparent that the town needed a focused and dedicated non-
prejudiced organisation that, recruited from the town as a whole, and served the town as a whole.
From this criteria Portadown Cares was born and quickly established itself as
the largest, busiest and most socially aware charity in the town. We adopted the dove as our emblem and the phrase "giving the community a hug" as our motto.
We have over the years immersed ourselves in wholesome activities designed to promote social integration, increase education, improve life skills and decrease social isolation, indeed we value and promote diversity and inclusion in every aspect of our community based charity.
All our wellness projects are targeted to meet a specific need, alcohol and drug
awareness courses, health and wellbeing classes, furniture up-cycling, pottery classes, basic first aid training, computer basics for our local silver surfers. We are fortunate to own a premises at Market Lane in Portadown, and encourage local groups, other charities and organisations to avail of our Community Hub, to date we have welcomed the Men’s Shed, ABC Autism, the ladies from Soroptimist International to name a few.
All of our activities are advertised locally, open to all and are planned in
conjunction with community and resident’s groups.
Our welcoming shop is open six days a week where we sell pre-loved items of
clothing, furniture and bric-a-brac at competitive prices and we provide
volunteering opportunities to those for whom regular employment may not be
an option at this particular time.
We are entirely self-funding and every penny of profit is used to fund our
aforesaid activities.
